Re: Sakho
It is the run of course, but now we're not relying on them to other than as cover their role is changed and maybe we can get them to reach that point.

I personally think if we need another striker we should be promoting Martinez when Carroll, Sakho and Hernandez are unfit. Regardless of what loans we might go on, it's the only way we'll ever really know if he's up to it...given he relies on chances being created. Sticking him in some boot it long Championship mid table side will not demonstrate how good he can be.

A squad with Hernandez, Sakho and Carroll, backed up by Ayew, Antonio, Arnautovic, Fletcher, Martinez...we shouldn't be buying another front line striker on big money...especially for a position where we only play one guy at a time unless we actually totally write off Sakho and Carroll completely (and give up even trying to get them fit).

you are partially right, but let's not forget that sakho often played wide in a front three, as does welbeck you mentioned at arsenal. as for having three foreards when fit, that's the rub isn't it? it's highly doubtful that we would have three forwards if the other two were always fit, isnt it?

Re: Sakho
I personally think it's very difficult to justify another top level striker having committed to Hernandez. Especially given our one centre forward primary setup.

If you look through the league, we're actually quite unusual in having 3 arguably (if all fit) first choice forwards who are only centre forwards.

Arsenal do in Lacazette, Giroud and Welbeck, but Spurs only have Kane, Chelsea only Morata and Batshiayi, Utd only Lukaku with Rashford played as wide forward mostly, City have Aguero (plus Jesus who can play most forward slots, and Ihenachho that they're shipping out).

Having 4 dedicated centre forwards in a one up front squad just isn't practical.

At best we should look for a Calleri type signing that might come good from nowhere, or a young player that can genuinely play anywhere on the front line.

Like it or not while Sakho and Carroll are in the books, another high profile CF just isn't practical.

Sakho is in the last year of his contract so the rest of his career arguably hangs on this season. Carroll is just a nice to have luxury/off the bench game changer now, and fortunately we'll probably be able to use him as such now. It might even be the best way to shift him (let him get for and still not play him much...he might get the hump and engineer a move).

Why on earth would he he be upset considering he appeared 4 times last season? do you honestly think that HE thinks he is in any sort of bargaining position?

Re: Sakho
Agree with claret on this. Dont even know what injury he is recovering from this time. Hernandez plays better in some form of partnership so we should be defo looking at bringing someone else in.
Sell snodgrass and buy in andre grey.

Re: Sakho
One of Sakho's complaints in the past was Carroll was paid about three times what he got. Now he knows Chicherito gets around four times his wages. He's not going to be very happy is he?

claret

it was reported that he had a groin injury, not left out.

Re: Sakho
I still find it amazing AC is not fit, he was taken out of the squad 4 or 5 games before then end of the season as a precaution, he's had no op or anything so how can he be unfit.

Re: Sakho
Sakho is a gamble, mentally and physically. We don't know what kind of player will come back. Fletcher should be shipped out on loan, or sold. I don't believe he's got what it takes. Ayew is not an out and out striker, ala Hernandez. We need one more.

Slav's a likeable chap, but he's fucking naive if he thinks we don't need another striker.

Re: Sakho
Not good reading, an injury to Chicharito and we are basically in the same position as last year.

Look at our history with newly signed forwards that are the big hope for the future, more often than not at West Ham they get injured and we are without our new first choice stricker. We should be still looking for a second fully fit forward of good quality for the Prem... That was supposed to be aim, why change because we have one sorted...

Re: Sakho
silly gamble based on his injury record over the last 2 years

no good doing great transfer business and then taking a gamble like this

Re: Sakho
as said below - if he is 100% right both mentally and physically then he's a great option to have.

its a big IF though.

Re: Sakho
I would be amazed if he lasts more than a game or two before his back going. Even if he has a miraculous recovery of biblical proportions Bilic won't forget his numerous strops and will be sold off.
